Charlie Brooks to take break from EastEnders

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Charlie Brooks is set to take a six-month break from EastEnders.

The 30-year-old, who plays pregnant villainess Janine Butcher on the BBC soap, will wave farewell to Walford in August, after giving birth on the small screen.

“I’ve got six months off in August, so we’re having the bump, but I won’t have to deal with prams and stuff in extra small doors on the set,” she told The Sun.

There are rumours that the actress is planning to compete on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing, following her triumph on the Christmas special.

Charlie previously admitted: “It would be fantastic to do the whole show, but EastEnders is a six days a week job. I’ve seen how difficult it is to juggle both, but it would be an amazing opportunity.”

An EastEnders spokeswoman confirmed that the star would be off screens for a short while, but didn’t comment on the Strictly reports.

“Charlie will be taking a break from EastEnders later this year. Over the coming months, there will be a lot of unexpected twists and turns, and the story is bound to be explosive,” she said.

Lindsay Lohan tells Matt Lauer she's 'clean and sober,' ready to prove herself — VIDEO

Lindsay Lohan sat down with Matt Lauer for an interview that will air Thursday on Today. The show has released a preview clip in which Lohan, who’ll host Saturday Night Live this weekend, insists she’s clean and sober.

Lauer admits to Lohan he thought of her after Whitney Houston’s death earlier this month and asks if that news made her reflect on her past troubles: “Not really. I don’t want to go there. That’s kind of a scary, morbid thing to discuss,” she says. “But, I mean, maybe to some extent when I went to jail and being in that place, that was really terrifying for me.”

Lohan agrees with Lauer that substance abuse can rob people of their talent. “I’ve experienced things like that… and it’s a really sad factor that can come into play in people’s lives sometimes if you don’t recognize it. And a lot of people don’t like to, and I think I did that for a long time. I think I was scared and didn’t want to admit it to myself, let alone anyone else,” she says.

According to Today‘s written preview of the conversation, Lohan knows she’ll have to work to rebuild her professional reputation. ”I think that takes time,” Lohan says. “And I think that it’s actions. Because people can say things all they want, but I think I still need to go through the process of proving myself, you know, with SNL, being on time, being, you know, keeping my — can’t say the word — but stuff together.”

She also seems to confirm rumors that she’ll star in Lifetime’s biopic of Elizabeth Taylor. ”I’ve been doing tons of research. But I’ve always kind of researched her. She’s always been a fascinating woman to me. So I’m really honored. And I will not let anyone down, especially myself.”

Bruce Springsteen Week on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon‘ began Monday when the Boss took his workingman’s rock to the show for the first of two performances. He kicked things off in signature form, playing two new cuts from his upcoming album, ‘Wrecking Ball,’ out March 6.

The first was lead single ‘We Take Care of Our Own,’ announced by a visibly pumped Fallon who asked the crowd “Can you feel it?!” Springsteen led the E Street Band through a cathartic rendition of the protest song. When Bruce Springsteen thinks something is wrong with America, well, y’all better listen up.

Guess who Natalie Cassidy was having an intimate drink with last night?

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

It was only bloody Mick Norcross, wasn? t it? What a strange pair, don?t you think?  We?re guessing they met through Mick?s son Kirk who was on Celebrity Big Brother with Nat.

She tweeted Kirk after dinner last night saying:

@kirk_official saw your dad last night! He’s so lovely.. Xxxx

Hmm she makes it sound like a chance meeting, but judging by these pictures it seems as though the situation was pre planned.  We?d like to think this could be the start of something beautiful(ish), but as we all know this week Nat apparently told pals that she?s ready to have baby number three with her violent ex.

She tweeted Kirk again this morning saying: @kirk_official honestly, it was so nice to see him.. Such a gent. Just like you babes! What you upto? I’m off to @itvthismorning.. X

She seems to be labouring her point a bit, but to be fair Natalie seemed more interested in celeb spotting as she also tweeted that night:

Nick grimmy and Chung in Nobu.. What lovely people. she looked AMAZING. #happytheyrenormal

Ooo get you Natalie, hanging out in Nobu, rubbing shoulders with stars.

?Linsanity? & Our Squicky Relationship With Asian-American Male Sexuality

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Jeremy Lin is not just the basketball player who has launched a thousand bad “Lin” puns — and prompted a refresher course on why the word “chink” is unacceptable for an ESPN headline.

His sudden emergence in pop culture has also underscored how strangely acceptable it is in America to make make racial comments about Asians, whether they are considered complimentary (like “all Asians are good at math” or “all Asian women are hot”) or insulting (like “Asian men are not sexy.”)

The thing is, if you’ve never seen an attractive, sexy Asian man, you probably ought to check either your eyes or your prejudices — like all hot men, they’ve been all around us all along.

The idea that people apparently think Asian guys are all shy, have tiny penises, and sit in their dark bedrooms writing computer code all the time is preposterous. I’ve dated two different Asian-American guys — one for four months (who is still a good friend) and another for two years. The fact that we’re even discussing “what Asian men are like” is as ridiculous to me as the fact a GOP debate included the totally-serious question, “Do you believe in birth control?”

But it’s happening left and right. Take, for instance, a piece by Chaweon Koo at Nerve.com:

I don’t expect you to understand exactly what Linsanity really means to the hordes of Asian-Americans who are saying, “Finally.” For me, “finally” comes in the form of relief that I can stop justifying why I’ve always liked/preferred Asian men. Most of my boyfriends have been Asian, and my current boyfriend (not Asian) gets jealous when I gush about Asian-American guys. I never did understand all the videos and stories about how Asian guys can’t get girls, aren’t good looking, etc. — stories that have been internalized by not only the Asian-American guys, but also the girls.

Now, it is true that if you do not personally know a hot Asian-American dude, then you shouldn’t look to pop culture for help. There aren’t terribly many Asian-American male sex symbols in pop culture and the ones that exist epitomize the unsexy, goofy-awkward stereotype: Long Duk Dong from “Sixteen Candles”, Mr. Chow from “The Hangover” and Han Lee on “Two Broke Girls. I’m racking my brain right now to think of other Asians on TV shows or in movies and I’ll be damned if I can think of anyone other than John Cho from the “Harold & Kumar” movies and Daniel Dae Kim from “Lost.” (Both, by the way, are really cute.)

All that being said, I find questions, like the one Koo asked at at Nerve. com — “Is [Jeremy Lin] a new vanguard for Asian-American sex symbols?” — a little offensive. We have to be careful when we talk about race and sexuality in regards to what it actually is we are saying. To me, the undertone I don’t like is that “oh, hey, Asian-American guys actually are more masculine than they get credit for in pop culture! They’re actually not effeminate!” While that might sound like an enlightened comment, it is predicated on the idea that Asian-American guys are good because they’re actually “masculine.” For one thing, from my experience, I can’t say Asian-American men are more or less masculine or feminine than any other race I’ve dated. But the idea that more non-Asian women should be attracted to Asians because they’re actually not the calculator-toting pussies we apparently thought they were is ridiculous. The reality is Asian-American guys have both masculine and feminine traits like any other race and they’re just great to date because they’re great to date.

I don’t think Nerve.com intended to sound ignorant — they really were trying to say something positive about what Jeremy Lin could mean for Asian-American dudes in popular culture. And I Am Yellow Peril blogger Justin Huang (who obviously knows a hell of a lot more about what it’s like being an Asian man than I ever will) seems to welcome all the new attention, on some level. “Linsanity could very well redefine the Asian American man as a sexually acknowledged being,” he wrote. “Frankly put, our basketball whiz kid has given the rest of us balls.” That is indeed fantastic — albeit somewhat perplexing to the rest of us who’ve always thought Asian-American dudes were hella bangable all along.

Brie Larson To Play Female Lead In CBS? Nick Stoller Comedy Pilot

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

While I did not love United States of Tara as a whole, I did love Brie Larson in United States of Tara. Now the Showtime series has ended its three-season run, Larson is looking for more steady work. In the last few months, the actress did appear on a couple of episodes of The League as Ruxin’s au pair, which anyone who watches The League knows is hardly steady work, as females tend to breeze through the show as soon as their allotted two-joke run is over. Luckily, it seems Larson has now nabbed a gig that may be far more worth her while.

Larson is set to play in The Muppets director Nick Stoller’s upcoming comedy pilot. The currently untitled project was the first comedy greenlighted by CBS this season, and as such has had some time to get its shit together, hiring Michael Anagarano to play the lead, a man named Jake who gets dumped by his girlfriend but then must work alongside her.

As a woman who has seen her history teacher friend divorce the art teacher in the same school building, I know how awkward the concept can get. However, Stoller has upped the awkward ante tenfold with his pilot, based on his own experience. According to Deadline, Larson is set to play Laura, an ad agency employee who literally works one cubicle over from ex-boyfriend, Jake. Love may not be in the cards for Jake and Laura, but I’m sensing a series order may be.

Bryan Adams, Stalking: Rocker Claims Police Leaked News of Incident to The Sun

Bryan Adams claims that a stalking incident over three years ago near his London home was leaked by British police to The Sun newspaper.

“Although I have no proof, and therefore it is of course speculation, I do not believe that there could be any other explanation than the fact that the source must have been someone related to my call to the police,” Adams said in a written statement to Lord Justice Leveson, chair of the Leveson Inquiry (Britain’s public inquiry into the News of the World phone hacking controversy), as reported by The Telegraph Tuesday.

“I can see no public interest in this being reported. It was not even accurate — no panic alarm was installed at my house. I do not see why the fact that I am a well-known musician should justify anyone leaking the story.”

Canada Day long weekend is a time for Canucks to kick back and enjoy the finer things in the Great White North. So after sipping on Molson beer, boasting about free health care and playing some street hockey, talk often turns to Canada’s musical pride and joy, the Tragically Hip.

And this year, folks can do more than fawn over the longtime rockers, the band — who were just honoured with the creation of Tragically Hip Way in their hometown of Kingston, ON — are playing two back-to-back Ontario festival gigs June 30 and July 1, at Niagara-on-the-Lake and Burl’s Creek respectively.

Gord Downie and his crew aren’t the only ones performing, either. Death Cab for Cutie, the New Pornographers (including Neko Case and Kathryn Calder) and the Rural Alberta Advantage will also help ring in Canada’s birthday, which this year will salute the War of 1812.

Nicola Stapleton ‘enjoying’ new side to Mandy

EastEnders actress Nicola Stapleton has admitted that she is enjoying having the chance to show a different side of her character Mandy, rather than playing her as a bad girl all the time.

Speaking to Inside Soap, she revealed that the arrival of her screen mother – played by actress Victoria Alcock – is helping to bring out Mandy’s vulnerable side.

“The relationship between Mandy and her mum helps make Mandy multifaceted. I don’t want to play just a bitch,” she said.

However Nicola added that she hoped viewers would also approve of the change in her alter ego.

“When you play a really prickly character like Mandy, it’s nice to take a look at why they behave like that,” she said.

“Whether it’ll make viewers warm to her, I don’t know. People love Mandy when she’s awful!”

‘The Bachelor’ Recap: Lip Lockin’ in Interlaken

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Hey Bachelor fans! Fans? Can we call ourselves that anymore? I’ll be honest: I’ve been watching this season of The Bachelor with about as much investment as Ben–little to none! While Meghan is in Belize this week, cleaning all the roses out of the ocean, I’ll be recapping tonight’s Fantasy Suite episode. I thought for sure it would be Courtney and Kacie B in the final two, but last week Ben sent Kacie B back into the Disney Vault.

I have an obvious theory about why: Ben wants to get laid as much as possible. He knew that Fantasy Suite dates were coming up, and Kacie B’s father (Mr. B) ruined everything with his strict morals and prohibition-era take on sins of the flesh. It’s a shame, too, because I think he really liked that giggly little girl. But tonight is the night when two become one, and one, and one; and Ben wants a WOMAN.

Cillian Murphy wins the Best Actor award at The Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

“HAVING ALREADY won acclaim in Galway and New York for his performance in Misterman , Cillian Murphy last night picked up the Best Actor award at The Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards. Laundry , a play which could only take three audience members at a time, took the Best Production award.

At a ceremony at Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Murphy was awarded the prize for his performance as a disturbed character in Enda Walsh?s one-man play.”

?I only have two words for this really: Enda Walsh,? Murphy said in his acceptance speech. ?Fifteen years ago he gifted me a career with his play Disco Pigs and 15 years later he gifted me the part of Thomas Magill in Misterman.?

Produced by Landmark Productions and the Galway Arts Festival, the play sold out in advance of its run during July?s festival.

Misterman will next run at London?s National Theatre in April. When it ran in New York last year, the New York Times described Murphy as ?electrifying? and said he seemed ?to inhabit every millimetre of the vast and cluttered wasteland in which he has been let loose. And it?s not just because of all that running he does from one end of the stage to the other.?

Misterman was one of four plays up for Best Production, and that award went to Laundry, which ran at the former Magdelene Laundry in Dublin?s Seán MacDermott Street during the Dublin Theatre Festival. A highly choreographed depiction of life in the laundry, audience members became participants in an immersive and emotional production. Directed by Louise Lowe, and produced by Anu Productions, Laundry was considered the highlight of more than 150 productions judged during 2011.

Lowe dedicated the award to the ?women whose stories and lives inspired? the work.

Newcomer Charlie Murphy was named best actress for her role as Eliza Doolittle in the Abbey Theatre?s production of Pygmalion.

Best New Play went to Mark O?Halloran?s Trade, directed by Tom Creed for Thisispopbaby. The short play about a middle-aged man visiting a rent boy was put on in a B&B near Dublin?s O?Connell St during the theatre festival.

Conall Morrison was named best director for his work on Henry Miller?s play The Crucible at Belfast?s Lyric?s Theatre. The play had opened the refurbished theatre last year and gained further success with the Best Supporting Actress prize going to Aoife Duffin, for her part as Abigail Williams.

John Olohan was awarded Best Supporting Actor for playing Byrne in Druid?s production of Big Maggie , which has recently toured the country. He described the tour as ?one of the best holidays Ive ever been on?.

Best Opera Production was Tosca , directed by Oliver Mears for NI Opera.

Best Designer Costume was given to Joan O?Clery for Rough Magic Theatre?s production of Henrik Ibsen?s Peer Gynt.

Best Designer Lighting was awarded to Aedin Cosgrove for two works: bringing Samuel Beckett?s radio play All That Fall to a new level for Pan Pan Theatre and Man of Valour, produced by Corn Exchange. All That Fall also earned Best Designer Sound for Jimmy Eadie.

Best Designer Set went to Jamie Vartan for Misterman , and Landmark Production?s night was rounded off perfectly when it took the Judges? Special Award ?for sustained excellence in programming and for developing imaginative partnerships to bring quality theatre to the Irish and international stage?.

A Special Tribute Award was presented to Gerry Smyth, in recognition of his developing and supporting the awards from 1998 until he recently retired as a managing editor at The Irish Times.

Accepting the award, he said: ?My year-to-year involvement with these awards afforded me a privileged perspective on the ongoing renewal and replenishment that takes place in Irish theatre ? as well as a broadening and deepening of my sense of how it is part of the larger conversation, providing a space in which we can re-engage with a world we often take for granted.?

Artists (or their management) apparently decided that Thursday, Feb. 22, 2012 was the best day to release their music videos. We got great new clips from the Shins, Screaming Females, Islands, Firehorse and Lazerbeak (whose hip-hop group Doomtree stopped by last week for an Interface taping). Check them all out below, plus the sorta-NSFW video for Polica‘s ‘Amongster,’ because we just can’t get out of our heads.

The Shins, ‘Simple Song
As we posted earlier, this really reminds us of ‘The Royal Tenenbaums‘ with the jerk patriarch and familial dysfunction. Can’t wait to hear the rest of their new stuff.

Dressed in their fanciest garb, Tinseltown beauties such as Rachel Bilson, Lily Collins and Elizabeth Olsen all arrived for the Oscar dinner with Charles Finch hosted by Chanel.

Also turning up for the annual Academy Awards fete was Freida Pinto, who turned up arm-in-arm with her “Slumdog Millionaire” beau Dev Patel.

When asked about his views on the afterlife, Meat replied, “I believe there’s something when you die because there are ghosts.”

“I’ve seen them, I’ve been around them,” he clarified. “Some are just energy left behind, and some are intelligent.”

Mona’s ‘The Tally’ Details the Bittersweet Moments of Touring Life — Song Premiere

Nashville’s latest addition to the Church of Rock ‘N’ Roll is Mona, a visually throwback group of badass dudes with a Southern flair and a thirst for truthful tunes. Now you can get an exclusive listen to the band’s latest single ‘The Tally.’

Beginning with a high-pitched lament from lead singer Nick Brown, ‘The Tally’ rips into a cathedral-sized chord progression that will get you swaying whether you’re in a bar, car or desk chair. Imagine fellow Nashvillians Kings of Leon mixed with the apathetic edge of the Strokes, and throw in a bit of James Dean for good measure.

Access Royale, ‘Hide’ — Video of the Day

Artist: Access Royale
Video: ‘Hide’
Highlight: “‘Hide’ is about staring death in the face and realizing, like most fears, it’s inevitable,” vocalist/guitarist Vee Styles tells Spinner. “So why not embrace the things you can while you’re still around, with no regrets? After a head-on car collision a few years back, I had a near-death experience, which made me realize that there’s no sense in living afraid of everything. It was that moment that I refused to ‘hide’ from anything or anyone for as long as I lived.”

Ricky Norwood: ‘Fat Boy gets a lotta love’

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

EastEnders star Ricky Norwood has hailed the ‘amazing turnaround’ viewers have made for his character Fat Boy.

The actor, who won Best Newcomer at the 2011 National TV Awards, told whatsontv.co.uk: “It’s been an amazing turnaround. When I first came in people used to say to me ‘I don’t like, I don’t like you on my screen!’ But now people say to me, ‘You know what, when I first saw you I didn’t like you, but now I love Fat Boy’.

His character is a classic unlucky-in-love soul, but Ricky hopes this is going to change. “It’d be lovely if a girl came along and was there for him. Fat Boy’s the one who will always run to someone’s rescue, so it’d be nice for someone to run to his rescue one day…”

Cheryl Cole launches shoe collection at London?s Westfield

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

It?s been a double whammy for the Girls Aloud singer. First of all she steals the show at the Princes Trust Charity event earlier this week and then she put her best foot forward at the launch of her Stylistpick shoe collection.

The star who recently revealed that she would soon be releasing her third solo album, was greeted by a flurry of fans at London?s Westfield shopping centre. The pretty singer said of her collection, ?It?s crazy because the anticipation of opening the box and seeing your visions come to life it?s an unexplainable feeling, it?s like dreamy.?

Cheryl wasn?t the only one who had fallen in love with her shoes, fans who were unable to greet her at the London Shopping Centre, tweeted their support, @Cherylsgirl said ?@CherylCole all your soldiers love you, have fun meeting some of your soldiers today, i’ll see you soon yeah ;) ? Love you millions baby!xxx?

Stylistpick?s CEO Juliet Warkentin said: ?We are thrilled to be working with Cheryl. Cheryl is the style icon and is amazingly warm, a quality that has made her the nations favourite. We believe that the launch will have a huge fashion impact; establishing fashion’s greatest influencer as a major force in fashion design and further democratising fashion.?

Ok, we get it, so Cheryl?s amazing and her collection of eight shoes will probably sell quicker than we can say ?Cheryl?, but can we show our support minus the sickly tweets?
