June Brown denies EastEnders’ exit

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

EastEnders legend June Brown has denied rumours she is leaving the soap for good.

The 85-year-old veteran actress, who is currently on a six-month break from playing Dot Branning in the BBC show, previously hinted she may not return to her famous role.

According to The Sun, she said: “My contract ended and I want to do something else. As an actress, you don’t want to always plod away at the same thing. I don’t know how long I will be out. I have no idea if I will go back.”

But her agent AIM insisted: “June Brown is taking a break from EastEnders as she has done before. She will be completing her autobiography, and intends to return to EastEnders in the not too distant future.”

An EastEnders spokesperson added: “June is currently on a filming break but will be back.”

Viewers will see June’s final scenes as chain-smoking Dot this week before she heads off on her screen hiatus.

June has played the character since 1985, and following a four-year break in 1993, has continued portraying her from 1997 onwards.

Exclusive Interview with ‘ANTM’ Top 3 Finalist Annaliese Dayes: ‘Sophie Would be Better for the Brand’

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off
With America’s Next Top Model becoming as much about the art of “branding” as it is the art of modeling, British contestant Annaliese Dayes hit the show right at its sweet spot this season. Her Tyra-given nickname was “Excite-to-Buy,” meaning that she could sell anything — including, and especially, herself. And even though in her final episode, Annaliese’s photo for the Top Model fragrance “Dream Come True” didn’t sell the perfume well enough for the judges’ liking, on her way out the door Annaliese still made the ultimate sale: finally earning the approval of the ever-critical Kelly Cutrone, who’d had it out for Annaliese all season.
We spoke to Annaliese the morning after her elimination episode aired, and Miss “Excite-to-Buy” was just as chipper and lovely as ever, even when we asked how she felt about haunting Kelly Cutrone’s dreams! Here’s Annaliese:

Read Every Line of Dialogue Rihanna Says in Battleship

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Rihanna's film debut is a memorable one. The Barbadian singer is wet for much of Battleship, her Navy uniform is uncommonly flattering, and the majority of her dialogue is composed of exclamations. It's a veritable master class in one-line utterances. Most of her lines fall into one of several categories: sassy ("Get up, princess!"), confused ("What the hell is that?") or surprisingly competent  ("Contact two miles out.") But enough of this. Let Rihanna speak for herself.

  • "What's wrong with you drama queen?
  • "Get up princess! Come on!"
  • "Typical"
  • "Shut up. Shut up."
  • "Oh, this gon' be sweet. He hates the man."
  • "You go mess with him and see what happens!"

  • "Chicken!"
  • "Kentucky Fried Chicken!"
  • "You look like Colonel Sanders, actually."
  • "Yo Saunders, ever been in a department run by some kind of Donald Trump/Mike Tyson mutant combo?"
  • "Nothing, sir."
  • "If you did, it was only in reference to the fact the you both project great physical intensity, sir."
  • "I got something sir, on my camera."
  • "I don’t know."
  • "Is this some kind of exercise?"
  • "You ever seen anything like this?"
  • "Weird, man."
  • "Real bad idea, Lieutenant."
  • "Lieutenant, get up."
  • "Lieutenant."
  • "Come on, you with me?"
  • "Come on, squared away?"
  • "What the hell is that?"
  • "Ahhhhhhh!"
  • "Ahhhhhhh!"
  • "What happened?"
  • "What?"
  • "Who’s in charge?"
  • "Fire control’s offline. I need three minutes."
  • "(Heavy sigh)"
  • "My dad said they’d come. Said it my whole life. He said one day we’d find them, or they’d find us. Know what else he said? He said, I hope I aint around when that day comes."
  • "No sir!"
  • "Nothing sir, nothing."
  • "Yo, hey!"
  • "Come on, come on, come on."
  • "Mahalo, motherfu—"
  • "What the hell is that?"
  • "Sir."
  • "Roger, Echo 1-1."
  • "Box 24. Ready to fire."
  • "India 3-7, locked."
  • "Sir, we’re hot over here. We’re good to go, let’s light ‘em up."
  • "Tango 1-9, loaded."
  • "Whiskey 2-5."
  • "Negative, sir, it’s moving all over the place. I can’t get a line on it."
  • "Sucker’s really jumping around."
  • "40 minutes sir."
  • "Contact is seven minutes out and closing fast."
  • "Contact two miles out."
  • "Contact ETA 21 seconds."
  • "Boom."
  • "Yeah!"
  • "Get up!"
  • "Let’s go!"
  • "Go, go, go!"
  • "Yes, sir."
  • "Oh yes sir."
  • "Awesome."
  • "Sir, we’ll be in weapons range in 5 minutes."
  • "Aimed at target."
  • "Sir, that’s the wrong direction!"
  • "Sir."
  • "Coordinates."
  • "Elevation."
  • "Come on, take the picture, Beast."
  • "Navy!"
  • "Come on, Hopper!"
  • "Look dapper!"

Bono, that guy from U2, is set to become the world’s richest musician in the world when Facebook’s IPO starts trading tomorrow, NME reports. He will overtake Paul McCartney (that guy from the Beatles) and will likely commemorate the occasion with a very heartfelt “Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!”

The Irish singer owns 2.3 percent of the Facebook shares after having purchased them at $90 million in 2009. Now that the company is worth over $100 billion, Bono will be worth more than $1.5 billion. Meanwhile, McCartney is just over worth a measly billion dollars.

Maya Jane Coles DJ-Kicks Mini-Mix: London House Producer Offers Exclusive Mix

Mads Perch

London house producer Maya Jane Coles began DJing at the age of 17, before she was old enough to enter a night club. The 24-year-old’s rise to prominence has been impressive to watch, from providing remixes for everyone from Little Dragon and house legend MK, to being hailed as “breakthrough DJ of 2011″ by Pete Tong, and contributing to institutions like BBC’s Essential Mix and the respected DJ-Kicks series, which was released in April.

Coles took time out from working on her forthcoming debut LP to put together a pretty rad 25 minute mini-mix, exclusive to Spinner/RPM, featuring Soulphiction, Homeboy, Pig & Dan and more.

“This mix was just a personal insight into the music that inspired me at that moment,” Coles explained. “I didn’t want to use obvious stuff. I was lucky enough to get to use some amazing exclusives, alongside some tracks that had been released already but initially may not have got the attention they deserved.”

Will Smith slaps reporter across the face after he tries to kiss him

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

The Hollywood actor and Men In Black Star, Will Smith, 43, was approached on the red carpet at the premiere of new movie Men In Black 3 in Moscow.

Will was accosted by Ukranian prankster Vitali Sediuk who gave him a hug before attempting to kiss him.

A surprised Will Smith pushed Sediuk back before slapping him in the face. Sediuk made two attempts at kissing Will on the lips both of which the actor dodged.  Will then told those around him that ?He tried to kiss me on the mouth. He?s lucky I didn?t try to sucker punch him. Sorry, I said that on camera.?

Sediuk may be a popular prankster in Russia but he clearly didn?t impress Will.

10 Books That Should Be Challenged Instead of ’50 Shades of Grey?

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

The charges: tedium, long-windedness, philosophical unpleasantness

Save yourself 1,000 pages, kids: basically, it’s all the poor people’s fault! Life lessons learned right there!

~

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown

The charges: awful, awful prose

Actually, one good thing about calling The Da Vinci Code to mind is that doing so also calls to mind this fairly spectacular take-down of Dan Brown’s prose. We’re perfectly aware that Brown has spent the last decade laughing en route to and from the bank — that still doesn’t make The Da Vince Code any more worth reading.

Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

The charges: self-indulgence, cloying sentimentality

Break-ups are horrible. There’s no two ways about it. Sadly, not all of us have benevolent publishers to send us off on a global jaunt to inflict our angst on the unfortunate residents of countries whose names happen to begin with “I.” (Although, judging by the appearance of “EAT PRAY LEAVE” signs in Bali of late, there are more Gilbert-esque types out there than we might like to imagine.)

State of Fear by Michael Crichton

The charges: tinfoil hattery, dubious science

As far as learning about the issues surrounding climate change goes, we suggest that a novel whose underlying premise can be summarized as “LA LA LA IGNORE IT AND IT’LL ALL GO AWAY” is perhaps not the best place to start.

Piers Anthony, generally

The charges: rampaging sexism, general creepiness

Flavorpill has a confession to make here: we were quite big fans of Piers Anthony’s fantasy production line in our early teens, but while he’s got a way with a narrative, he’s also got a way with spectacularly over sexism. Revisiting his work, it’s remarkable to see just how objectionable his depictions of women are (especially in the never-ending Xanth series) — they’re almost inevitably either ingenuous sex objects, or nasty deceptive tricksters who are ugly to boot. And then, of course, there’s his hugely creepy 1990 novel Firefly, where, amongst other things, a five-year-old girl gets it on with an adult man. Ewwww.

The Secret by Rhonda Byrne

The charges: ghastly self-help simplicity

Want to know the secret? Lean close, now. We’ll whisper it quietly. You ready? You sure? “THERE IS NO FUCKING SECRET! LIFE IS DIFFICULT. SORRY.” There. Now, let’s never speak of this again.

Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar

The charges: privileged Upper East Side ghastliness, being responsible for the TV series

Things we have never really understood about TV/film/literature/etc include: the appeal of depictions of the apparently oh-so-dramatic lives of self-absorbed, overprivileged and fundamentally tedious rich people. Sigh.

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson

The charges: ubiquity

Actually, in fairness, there’s nothing especially wrong with this. It’s just that if we see one more dishevelled businessman reading it avidly on the subway, his face lit with the glow of hope that maybe just a little Jobsian stardust might somehow sprinkle onto his next start-up idea, we’ll dissolve into a puddle of existential despair once and for all.

Dollhouse: A Novel by Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian

The charges: its authors

Have we read this? No. Come on, gentle reader — we can only put ourselves through so much on your behalf.

Mission Earth (Volumes 1 to 10) by L Ron Hubbard

The charges: general awfulness, Xenu, etc

And finally, where to begin with this? Wherever you stand on the “Is Scientology a religion or a dangerous cult?” debate, the fact is that while L Ron proved disconcertingly successful as a “religious” leader, he proved rather less so as a prose stylist and storyteller — unless 1.2 million words’ worth of garbled, homophobic rantings about an imagined dystopian future are your idea of a good time, in which case strap yourself to the e-meter and get reading.

Pippa Middleton: Scottish Wedding Beauty

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Looking lovely for the formal affair, Pippa Middleton was spotted in Scotland with friends to attend the wedding of Camilla Hook and Sam Holland this afternoon (May 19).

The darling 28-year-old looked gorgeous in a maroon wrap-dress matched with black pumps and a flowery headpiece atop her beautiful brown locks.

In personal news, the princess? sister may be considering a big move to the Big Apple while she pursues a career in party planning.

According to reports released earlier this month, the brunette beauty may be considering the move to New York City as early as this fall and a friend added,?She?s at a crossroads in her life ? single and ready both for a fresh career challenge and to embrace a new scene. Moving to New York is something she?s contemplating ? but it?s far too premature to think she?s sitting at home, on the Kayak website, about to purchase a one-way ticket to JFK.?

‘Nikita’ Finale Recap: Who Survived the Division Showdown?

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

In tonight’s season 2 finale, Nikita (Maggie Q) finally confronts Percy (Xander Berkeley), but things do not go as planned.

Danger From All Sides

Nikita and Michael (Shane West) are still trapped inside Division thanks to the lockdown, but it does not take them long to find one another. Meanwhile, Percy tells his agents that Division has been breached and anyone who kills Michael and Nikita will be rewarded. At the Farm, Sean (Dillon Casey) and Alex (Lyndsy Fonseca) survive their gun-battle with the Alpha team only to have the marines show up. They have to lay-low to avoid detection, as the marines do not know the difference between Nikita’s people and the actual bad guys.

The President makes a press statement announcing that he is pulling his support from the peace treaty and Percy is pleased, especially when the gentleman tells him that he has been admitted into the man’s group. Percy is less pleased to see the marines, but he manages to convince his agents that he called them in to prevent Team Nikita from escaping.

EastEnders casts Derek Branning’s son

EastEnders has cast David Witts to play villain Derek Branning’s son Joey.

Derek will be forced to face up to his past when Joey arrives in Walford. Joey turns up in Albert Square hot on the heels of his sister Alice, having been sent by their mother to tempt her back home.

When Joey realises that Alice has no intention of leaving, he resolves to show her the type of man Derek really is.

Joey is being described as a charming character who “prides himself on telling it how it is, but is in fact a compulsive liar”.

Newcomer Witts said: “I am delighted to be joining EastEnders after being a fan for so many years. Joining the Branning family couldn’t have come at a better time, especially after the recent British Soap Awards wins.”

EastEnders’ executive producer Lorraine Newman added: “Joey is a fantastic addition to the Brannings and after an explosive entrance onto the Square, he is set to break a few hearts as he campaigns to bring Derek down.”

Janine in wedding day drama?

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

EastEnders character Janine Butcher, who is played by Charlie Brooks, will reportedly go into labour three months early – on her wedding day.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, Janine fears she will lose the baby when she collapses in agony and starts bleeding as she weds Michael Moon.

An EastEnders insider told the newspaper: “This is Janine’s wedding so it had to be big. Ever since she inherited her gran’s money she’s become the most powerful and richest woman in Walford.

“Janine has spent loads on her big day, making sure everything is the best money can buy. This has left Michael feeling inferior and as we’ve already seen, he’s turned back to his dark side.

“He’s been conning money out of Jean Slater, getting her to trust him and there is lots more between these two coming up, which all comes to a head on his wedding day.

“All hell is going to break loose. There’s also the small matter of Jean’s niece Kat Moon coming back soon. There’s no way Michael would’ve been able to manipulate Jean the way he has if she’d been around.

“We’ve already filmed the wedding and the fans can expect high drama, lots of emotion and one or two surprises. People will be shouting at their TVs for Janine not to marry Michael.”

Patsy Palmer: ‘EastEnders could write Bianca out’

Patsy Palmer is aware that her EastEnders alter-ego may be written out in the future.

The 39-year-old actress, who is taking a six-month break from mouthy market seller Bianca Butcher, acknowledged that writers may make the decision to axe her character from the BBC soap one day.

“I’m really grateful that I’ve got such a good job, but at the same time I don’t get paid for not going to work so in effect I’m losing out on six months worth of wages,” she said on This Morning.

“You never know when they’re going to do that on EastEnders. Obviously some amazing characters have been written out or died. They haven’t written me out yet, but you never know.”

Neil Young and Crazy Horse, ‘Clementine’ — Exclusive Video Premiere

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Danny Clinch

For Americana, Neil Young‘s first album with the band Crazy Horse in nearly nine years, the singer-songwriter revisits classic American folk songs and delivers the tunes, which encompass familiar protest songs, murder ballads and campfire songs, with electrifying ferocity. In spite of — or perhaps because of the approach, the universal appeal of the songs is neither lost nor diminished and they retain their relevance in these challenging times.

“Clementine,” the oft-sung tale of a grieving miner, which has become a popular children’s song, is believed to be based on a 1863 song titled “Down by the River Liv’d a Maiden,” by H.S. Thompson. However, Neil writes in the Americana liner notes that the song is usually credited to Percy Montrose or Barker Bradford from about 1884.

“The Untitled Terrence Malick project” gets a title and an R-rating

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

it’s called To The Wonder

Before the lineup for this year?s Cannes Film Festival was announced, many were hoping that Terrence Malick?s romantic drama starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams (previously referred to as The Burial) would be among the films set to premiere. Given that he just released The Tree of Life last year, it would have been an unprecedented move; the average time between the release of Malick films is 7.6 years (yes, I did the math). However, the director has become surprisingly prolific as of late, lining up two new films to shoot this year. He filmed the romantic drama in 2010, but he famously spends years shaping his films in the editing room.

The Cannes lineup announcement came and went with no mention of Malick, but today we?ve got some news that provides hope for those wishing to see the film sometime this year. Not only does the film now have a set title of To the Wonder, it has an official rating of R. Hit the jump for more, including story details.

The official Classifications & Ratings Administration has revealed (via The Film Stage) that To the Wonder is rated R for ?some sexuality/nudity.? This rating falls in line with the synopsis that was revealed late last year:

?It concerns a philanderer (Affleck) who, feeling at loose ends, travels to Paris, where he enters a hot-and-heavy affair with a European woman (Olga Kurylenko). Said Lothario returns home to Oklahoma, where he marries the European woman (in part for visa reasons). When the relationship flounders, he rekindles a romance with a hometown girl (McAdams) with whom he?s had a long history.?

Mr. ?gorgeous photography? Malick is taking on the world of s-e-x. I’ve been looking forward to this one for quite some time, in part because Malick has assembled a top notch cast. In addition to Affleck, McAdams, and Kurylenko, the film also stars Javier Bardem, Rachel Weisz, Barry Pepper, and a possible brief appearance by Jessica Chastain and/or Michael Sheen. This rating and title mean that the director has finally put the finishing touches on the project, and once he secures distribution we could hopefully see the film in theaters later this year. Producers will most likely be shopping the film at the Cannes Film Festival, so we hopefully we?ll have distribution news to report in the next two weeks. Stay tuned.

Chris Cauley After ‘The Voice’: ‘I Really Did Have An Absolute Blast’

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

We didn’t really get to know Chris Cauley during his brief time on The Voice, which is a shame. The Georgia native who delivered a unique arrangement of Bruno Mars’ “Grenade” is incredibly personable, charming and has his own story to tell. We caught up recently to talk about his career past and present, his much-talked-about battle round, and the unique reason why he joined Team Adam.

Marion Cotillard and Eva Longoria Hit the Carpet in Cannes

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

It’s only the second day of the Cannes Film Festival, and we’ve already seen plenty of stars including Diane Kruger, Jessica Chastain, and Alec Baldwin. Today’s premiere of Rust and Bone brought out the film’s leading lady, Marion Cotillard, as well as castmembers Matthias Schoenaerts and young Armand Verdure. Marion looked glamorous in a black Christian Dior Couture ball gown after stepping out earlier in the afternoon in a pink dress for a photocall. Eva Longoria, who is attending the festival on behalf of L’Oréal, was also on hand this evening in a sexy white Emilio Pucci following a rooftop photo shoot this morning. Jane Fonda and Freida Pinto rounded out the fashionable red carpet, which is just one of many to come. Check out all the Cannes Film Festival pictures so far and make sure to follow PopSugar on Twitter for the latest updates straight from Cannes!

‘Community’ Poll: Best Episode of Season 3 (So Far)

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

The triple dose of new Community episodes to end season 3 is almost upon us, and to prepare for a long summer without the Greendale 7, let’s take a look back at this distinctive season so far. From an abrupt winter hiatus that provoked the comedy’s many cult-like fans to some experimental risks (even for Community), this season has certainly been interesting. Pierce became less of an outcast, Troy and Abed engaged in civil war and Britta became the worst. There were documentaries, unexpected deaths and the divergence of multiple timelines. Basically, it got weird, but in a good way.

Hilary Duff: LA Dentist Darling

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Out taking care of her Hollywood smile, Hilary Duff was seen leaving the dentist office in Los Angeles, CA on Wednesday afternoon (May 16).

Although she was just out for an appointment, the 24-year-old still kept her look chic in a loose fit grey top, skinny cuffed jeans and leopard print heels as she made her way out to her silver Mercedes SUV.

In more personal news, the former Disney Channel starlet recently celebrated her very first Mother?s Day!

The proud mom of two-month-old son Luca posted a photo of herself and her adorable little one on her Twitter page with the caption reading, ?Me and my Beautiful boy! So much to be thankful for!?

It seems like first time motherhood has been an easier task for Hilary than it has been for many others as she explained on a recent appearance for ?The Ellen DeGeneres Show,? baby Luca is quite the sleeper adding, ?I feel weird, because it seems like I?m bragging, but he sleeps from like 11 to six. It is possible, ladies.?

The beautiful actress seems absolutely thrilled to be a mom later saying, ?It?s just like the best thing that?s ever happened to you.?

‘America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion’ Recap: All Bottled Up

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Last week on Top Model: Tyra eliminated Eboni, and Alisha eliminated herself, which left one American, Laura, and two Brits, Sophie and Annaliese, in the running to become the next red carpet correspondent at the Kids’ Choice Awards for Extra!

This week, the final three girls are still in Hong Kong, where they’re all still reeling from that traumatizing panel where Alisha offed herself. You know, for a minute. Then they shake it off and bask in the glory of being #1, #2 and #3! Laura spins it even better, now that the only other American girl is gone: “I’m technically #1 on the American side.” It’s good practice for after the show, when padding that resume will really become essential.

EastEnders deny McGarty ‘quit’ claims

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off
It looks like Shona McGarty won’t be leaving Albert Square anytime soon as Eastenders bosses have dismissed claims that she is quitting the hit TV soap.

Earlier this week, it was indicated that the actress wants a break from her role as Whitney Dean to pursue a singing career.

The rumour mill was sent into overdrive when McGarty told the Daily Star newspaper: “I love Motown music and singing has always been a passion of mine. It’s a real dilemma as I love acting but I also want to sing. I want to do something with music.”

However, in a recent interview with Digital Spy an Eastenders representative confirmed that McGarty won’t be departing the show anytime soon saying: “There is absolutely no truth in the report that Shona has quit EastEnders.”

McGarty has been playing Whitney since 2008.

Hip-Hop Rumors: J.Cole Says Too Many Rappers “Fighting For Attention” On Twitter

“I’m not on Twitter no more, I’m not doing it and I’m not going to. I’m sitting and on watching all these artists who I respect — some of them are big artists — on Twitter fighting for attention. Every tweet is like, I’m looking for attention. Retweet me! It comes from this place of fear, like I don’t want people to forget about me. But really your body of work speaks for you, so it’s doing work even when you’re not knowing it. But because people ain’t talking about you on Twitter or your mixtape ain’t trending, you feel a certain kind of way. But when it’s my time, I’m gonna load up all my clips and I’m gonna empty ‘em out.”

I think J.Cole may have a point.
